The amount of complex and expensive equipment in police cruisers increases all the time, and much of it is mounted on the passenger side. Even in a minor accident, the airbag can come out at speeds greater than 200 mph. With laptop computers mounted in the airbag zone, this becomes especially hazardous, and can severely injure the driver or a passenger and destroy expensive equipment.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration authorizes Police Departments to have airbag switches installed to help control this danger.

The hazard of a detonating airbag has been known to most police departments for years. In the past, some decided to use console systems rather than center post-mounted computer systems because of the airbag danger. We also offer airbag simulators that can be plugged into the airbag system when the airbag is disconnected preserving the SRS (airbag) warning system. these are much less expensive than airbag switches, and a lot easier to install, but the airbag cannot be turned on and off with a key, as with an airbag switch. With a Simulator, the airbag is unplugged until the harness is reassembled when the car is sold.
